How to Choose a Good Driving Instructor in Reading

When you’re learning to drive, having the right driving instructor is essential. You will be spending many hours in a car with them and the relationship you have may even determine whether you pass first time or not.

If for any reason you don’t trust your driving instructor, they are not punctual or you don’t feel they are teaching you as well as they should be, then don’t hesitate to change.  After all, it’s your hard earned money being spent on lessons, so you deserve a qualified driving instructor that you feel at ease with.

At Blue School of Motoring, we have years of experience in helping people of all ages learn to drive. And our highly qualified team of driving instructors in Reading is passionate about providing the very best driving lessons.

So whether you’re looking for a driving instructor in Reading or beyond, here is our guide to help you choose a good instructor.

How do you know if your driving instructor is qualified?

In the UK, only DSA (Driving Standards Agency) Approved Driving Instructors (more commonly referred to as ADIs) or DSA licensed driving instructors under training can charge for driving lessons. At Blue, all of our courses are run by fully qualified Reading driving instructors, so you are sure to be in safe hands and receive expert tuition.

It’s easy to see if a Reading driving instructor is qualified by looking in the windscreen of their car. A green octagonal badge can only be displayed by a fully qualified instructor and a pink triangle by an instructor who is still undergoing training.

What other qualifications do driving instructors need to have?

All qualified and training driving instructors are now CRB checked. The DSA have also recently introduced a grading system to improve standards, with 6 being the highest given. All of Blue’s team of Reading based driving instructors naturally fall into the highest grades.

Where should my driving instructor be based?

We would always recommend you choose a local instructor to where you live or work. This makes pickups and drop offs more convenient for you and ensures your instructor knows the roads where you will be taking your test inside out. So if you are based in Reading, you should find a driving instructor working in Reading.

Should I choose an independent instructor?

Some driving instructors are completely freelance and do not work with any motoring school. We would advise whichever option you choose to always speak directly to the instructor, but remember that being affiliated to a good driving school guarantees a high standard and will provide all the support you need.

What else should I look out for?

Driving instructors should be calm and reassuring at all times. You should feel 100% safe with them, develop a good rapport and feel that they are totally in control. This is exactly what our team of driving instructors in Reading aims to do and we guarantee you will be completely satisfied.

Does it really Matter which Driving School You Choose?

So you are looking for a driving school in Reading? Well the first thing you’ll probably have noticed with almost no research at all is just how many driving schools there are in the Reading area. So you have quite a difficult choice to make in deciding which one is right for you.

Put very simply, the driving school you choose does have a huge impact on how quickly you pass your test and how good a driver you will become following the test. So choose wisely.

As with any large decision, you’ll want to do some serious research before signing with one of Reading’s driving schools. One of the best things to do initially is to ask friends and family for local recommendations. It may be that you already know other people learning to drive and you can ask them for honest feedback regarding how the driving school operates. Most driving schools rely heavily on positive recommendations and, let’s be honest, you’re not going to recommend a driving school where the instructors were late for lessons, unfriendly or cut the lessons short. Following that, you could do further research online by reading reviews, looking through local listings and visiting the driving school’s website. The website should contain detailed information about pricing, the experience of their instructors, practical information about the courses offered and even an online booking system to cut admin for you.

Here are a few things to keep in mind when searching for a driving school in Reading:

  • Keep it local. It’s always advisable to learn to drive in an area you are familiar with. It also makes pick up and drop off points at home or at work more convenient for you, so if you’re based in Reading, a Reading driving school is the ideal choice.

  • Does the driving school offer the type of course you require? For example, you may be wishing to take an intensive course, an advanced driving course or a Pass Plus course. You’ll obviously need to check the availability of those with your chosen driving school in Reading.

  • Search for a driving school or instructor with a good pass rate. At least a 60% pass rate is recommended.

  • Talk to your prospective driving school about their instructors. Choosing an instructor is a very personal thing, and largely depends on rapport as well as their style, punctuality and experience in knowing which methods work well for certain individuals.

  • Ask whether a driving school’s instructors have experience teaching in the Reading area and on local test centre routes. A driving school in Reading should be able to comprehensively prepare you for the tricky junctions and roads around local test centers, as this is where many candidates will falter.

So finding the right driving school in Reading, or indeed wherever you are, is vital. It will play a significant role in how you pass your test and ensure that you are a safe and confident driver for many years to come.

Learn to Drive with Guildford Driving Instructors

shutterstock_139310663

Even for an experienced driver, driving in the centre of Guildford can be an intimidating. For people hoping to learn to drive or for people who have passed their test but lack experience, it can really put them off getting in a car.

There is the busy gyratory system which can be confusing to navigate as the lanes are not always obvious and there are a large number of other drivers also switching lanes around you. During rush hour this system can come to a standstill so it is important to know lane discipline and how to cope with busy roads if you are planning on driving in and around Guildford.

Luckily we have a number of highly experienced and well trained driving instructors in Guildford who have traversed Guildford and the surrounding area many times.

By learning to drive in the Guildford area you will be able to gain experience with multiple traffic lights, junctions, large and mini roundabouts and busy dual carriageways. However, at Blue, our driving instructors in Guildford will know the calmer areas of the town, allowing you to build up your confidence and ability before being thrown into the busier streets.

Once you have covered the basics of clutch control then your Guildford driving instructor will move onto doing main roads and roundabouts, but only when you are ready. Blue prides itself on only hiring instructors who will help nurture and encourage learner drivers, making sure that you can learn to drive in an environment that is as safe and a stress free as possible.

If you are new to the Guildford area and have already passed your test we also have a number of instructors who are trained in various Pass+ programs which are specifically designed to give you further experience of situations you may have not faced during your initial lessons or test.

Alternatively, if you have already passed your test or want to start anew, Blue also has driving instructors in Guildford which are trained to offer Automatic car lessons. Learning to drive in an automatic car can be so much easier than in a manual car, with most pupils reaching test standard in less time, learning to drive can be a lot less expensive. However, keep in mind, you will be restricted to driving an Automatic once you have passed your test and would need to get another license to allow you to drive Manual cars.

Whatever lessons you have in mind it is important to get a driving instructor who knows the area well as they will be able to take you on the most helpful routes for you. It can also be helpful to take a single one off lesson if you are new to the area and want a controlled environment in which to learn some of Guildford’s more busy areas.

If you live outside of Guildford but want to take your lessons within the town then it is best to state this when booking your first lesson as your instructor will always collect you.

Driving lessons in Guildford

It is important to find a good place to take driving lessons Guildford because you want to learn everything there is to know about driving so that you have a better chance of passing your driving test. Most people think that they can just have friends and family teach them to drive, but this is a serious mistake for many reasons.

shutterstock_86666056

One reason that it is not a good idea to have a family member or a friend teaches you to drive is that you may not be learning the proper method of doing something. A person who is close to you might not be as impartial as they should be and there will be a certain amount of emotion involved. If emotion takes over, people tend to forget the purpose of the driving lesson and it can be a serious waste of time.

Driving Lesson Ascot Driving Lesson Ascot

A professional driving school that offers driving lessons Guildford is a great choice because a new driver will be taught everything that they need to be a safe and good driver on the roadways. If you decide to take professional driving lessons, you will be picked up at your home by the driving school instructor. You will then start your driving lesson immediately and be taken around to a safe area to learn the basics.

As you gain confidence and feel better about driving, your driving lessons in Guildford will become more complicated and more tasks will be included. It is important to never panic when you are driving, because this can be very dangerous. Continue to listen to all of the instructions that the driving instructor gives to you as you are learning to drive.

Driving lessons Guildford can help you to be better prepared to pass your final road test. You should never underestimate the power of good driving lessons. Another result of taking professional driving lessons is that you may qualify for a discount on your insurance when you are ready to get your own car on the road. This is a great bonus that can save a great deal of money in the long run.

When you are ready to begin driving lessons, it is important to find a good driving school that has some lesson times available for you. Book your times and get ready to learn as much as you possibly can. Always keep an open mind as you are learning new things, it is important to be constantly ready to follow every instruction given to you. If you think that driving lessons are something that you can do and you feel that you are ready, then get in touch with a local driving school and get started. Once you have had a few driving lessons you will start to build the confidence that you need to learn everything there is to know about driving. Good driving lessons can help you to move towards being fully licensed much more quickly than if you try to learn all of the steps and skills on your own.

Many people believe they can pass their driving test easily by learning with family and friends. But this can be a big mistake. Not only would you be learning in a car ill-equipped to deal with a learner driver (and have to fork out for the high insurance premiums), but your friends may not be teaching you the correct procedures. We are often guilty of picking up bad habits after we have been driving for many years, and passing these on to a learner driver can be unsafe and a waste of time when it comes to taking the driving test.

Achieving a quality driver’s education is an essential life skill for anyone who plans to operate on the road. Being properly trained and equipped with the skills necessary to pilot a motor vehicle is essential, not only for the safety of the driver, but also everyone on or near the roads. Much more important than passing a drivers exam or being a legal driver is being able to operate safely and effectively on the roads. With this philosophy in mind, Blue School of Motoring seeks not only to properly train and educate our drivers to pass tests, but to be all around quality drivers whose presence on the road is neither detrimental nor dangerous to traffic.

Are You Looking for a Driving School in Reading?

Quality Education

Having a good driver’s education is a matter of amassing both knowledge and skills. First, students must be educated in the basic operating principles of a vehicle, the rules of the road, emergency procedures and other necessary information. Once they have some basis in theory, they can begin to pilot a motor vehicle under the supervision of a qualified driving instructor. All our educational vehicles are equipped with emergency controls which can be operated by the instructor if the need arises.

Getting Qualified

As students’ progress through their lessons, they gradually complete every requirement presented by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA) and acquire all the information and abilities necessary to pass their real world driving test. Along the way, they also get helpful tips and information from experienced professional driving instructors, imparting in students good technique, road manners, proper vehicle handling and other useful information.

Different Courses, Different Qualifications

In addition to the standard driving course, intended largely for new drivers piloting regular small commuter automobiles, there are a variety of driver’s education courses which cover additional skills of the road. These include advanced drivers classes for additional skills and training, as well as a host of programs focused on different types of vehicles. For those interested in piloting vehicles with a manual transmission, for example, additional training is required.

Intensive courses are available for those looking to streamline the process and get through the drivers program as fast as possible. Courses are also available for foreign drivers, stream lined programs which simply help them adjust and easily pass a UK driving test. Other courses include refreshers for drivers who may have been away from the road way for awhile, under 17 off road courses which take young drivers onto private land for training, fleet driver training suitable for company van or car drivers, taxi driver training courses, and even driver instructor training for anyone looking to become an instructor themselves.

Available In Several Locations

Blue School of Motoring is a franchise school, with 15 locations across the UK. Our helpful services even include home pick up and drop off. Wherever you are in the UK, Blue School offer exceptional driver education for anyone seeking to become a safe, qualified and licensed UK driver.

Pass With Flying Colours

The most standard drivers education courses offered at Blue School of Motoring are geared towards taking first time drivers, and preparing them as quality drivers fully capable of passing their drivers exams and becoming licensed, legal drivers in the UK. These courses are designed in modules which cover every requirement as set out by the Driving Standards Agency, to prepare students for the official exams such as drivers Theory, the Hazards Perception Test and the Practical test itself. Blue School of Motoring even features an under-17 course which takes students onto private tracks to practice their driving, letting them get a leg up and learn early.

Find Some More Advanced Skills

If you’re already familiar and comfortable behind the wheel, have your license and a bit of mileage under your belt, there is still plenty that Blue School of Motoring has to teach. Our Pass Plus Courses are geared towards giving students who just passed their Practical Test, who want a bit more knowledge and insight into advanced driving techniques. Courses are available for both automatic and manual transmissions. Their “intensive” courses attempt to cover a broad amount of material in a condensed time frame, giving you an ideal option if you need to get a license or learn to drive as quickly as possible. For those who might have spent some time away from the motorways, Blue School of Motoring offers refresher courses which aim to get you back on the road and driving confidently as ever.

Professional Options

There are also several courses offered for those looking to become professional drivers in one capacity or another. These include Fleet Driver Training, which gives students the skills necessary to operate fleet vehicles such as company vans or cars. Taxi Driver Training aims to help aspiring taxi drivers prepare for their taxi driver test. For those looking to become a professional driving instructor themselves, Blue School of Motoring offers a plan to pass on their expert abilities to would-be driving instructors.

What you need to know when choosing a Driving Instructor in Reading

For many young people, turning seventeen is a major milestone.  Not only are you that little bit closer, to officially being classed as an adult, you can start learning to drive.

Driving Test Farnborough

When it comes to applying for your driving licence, you don’t need to wait until the day of your birthday.  A provisional driving licence can be applied for, up to three months prior.  You can apply either in person, or by post.  The process itself is relatively straightforward.  Simply pop into your local Post Office and pick up a D1 application form.  Once you have completed this form, you will need to send it off to the DVLA, along with a piece of original documentation confirming your identity, a passport style photograph and the relevant fee.

Once you have received your provisional driving licence, the next step is to find a driving instructor.  Both friends and family may offer, however the best way to learn to drive, is with a qualified driving instructor.

There are a huge number of driving instructors in Reading available to choose from, and it is vital that you take the time to find the right one for you.

Personal recommendations are one of the best places to start, however if you happen to be the first of your friends turning seventeen, you may need to look online.

Regardless of which route you go down, make sure you call and have a chat first, before handing any money over.  Some driving instructors also offer either a free first lesson, or one that is discounted, so make sure you ask when you call.

Other questions that you should ask any potential driving instructor Reading should include:

Price and Lesson Length – The average price tends to be in the region of £25.  If you are interested however, in having longer lessons i.e. 90 minutes or 2 hours, you should pay less than the standard hourly rate, as these lessons save driving instructors money

Special Offers – In addition to a free/discounted first lesson, ask your driving instructor Reading if there are any other deals available.  Both paying in advance, and block booking can help secure you a discount

Qualifications – All driving instructors must be on the Driver Standards Agency register, either as a trainee instructor, or one that is fully qualified.  If you’re driving instructor Reading is fully qualified, he will display a green badge in his vehicle.  If however, it is pink, he is still a trainee.

Car – Whilst in essence this shouldn’t make a difference, it is recommended that you don’t learn in one, which is larger than your typical family car.  The smaller the car, the easier it is to manoeuvre!

Why Finding the Right Driving Instructor in Aldershot is so Important

Learning to drive can be tough. Not only are there the nerves and high emotions of being out on the road for the first time, but the pressures of money and time meaning you want to learn quickly and pass on your first go.

And the key to being a good driver and passing with flying colours is to find the right driving instructor.

By learning to drive with one of Aldershot’s qualified driving instructors, and as part of an authorised driving school, you will receive the expert tuition you need, the support to get you through your theory and practical tests, lessons focussed entirely on your needs and a dual control car designed to help you learn safely. You may even qualify for a discount on your motor insurance when you pass.

So how do you find the right driving instructor in Aldershot?

Here are a few things to look out for:

  • It seems like an obvious thing to say, but you should like you’re driving instructor and get on well with them. After all, you will be spending many hours in an enclosed environment with them and it is the driving instructor’s job to build your confidence and help you through the ups and downs of learning to drive. In the unlikely event that you do have any concerns, you’re driving school should be on hand to assist.

  • Choose a local driving instructor to where you live or work. For instance, a driving instructor in Aldershot should have an excellent knowledge of the roads in that area. Being able to choose a quiet Aldershot neighbourhood for those early lessons will really help your confidence grow quickly, and ideally you will be familiar with the roads where you will be taking your test by the time you are ready.

  • Find a driving instructor with lesson times to suit you. Again, learning with a local driving instructor to Aldershot if you live in Aldershot makes a lot of sense. They will be conveniently placed to pick you up from home or work and fit around your schedule.

  • Remember that all driving instructors who charge for lessons need to be approved by the Driving Standards Agency (DSA).

The right driving instructor is guaranteed to help you get that all important license quickly and with excellent driving skills that will stay with you for life.

What to Expect from Driving School in Reading

If you have been considering whether or not you should enrol with a driving school in Reading, then there are many really great reasons why you should. When you are first learning to drive, everything can feel very overwhelming, but if you are working with someone who is calm and professional, it can make all the difference and help you to learn to drive the right way. While friends and family can help you with practice, they are not always the right choice.

shutterstock_146273954

When you are ready for your first lesson, you can contact a driving school that will come to your home, workplace or school and pick you up. They are most likely to drive you to a quiet location where you can learn to drive without stress or distractions. This is a good idea because new drivers are likely to be very nervous and unsure of themselves. Once you arrive at a predetermined location, the instruction will allow you to take over the driver’s seat. The first thing you will do is fasten your safety belt and adjust everything including mirrors to suit your height and tastes.

Every lesson that you are taught through a driving school Reading can help you to get one step closer to taking your final road test and being a fully licensed driver. Each lesson presents new challenges and professional instructors know just how to present the information and the tasks so that you will not find it too overwhelming. This can also help to build your confidence as you learn all of the various things necessary to operate a motor vehicle safely.

When you are learning to drive, it can seem very overwhelming and impossible. Instructors are good at showing you the steps that you need to undertake to be safe and to drive well. All you need to do is keep an open mind and follow the instructor’s direction as you start to drive. The feeling of getting behind the wheel is one of power and control, and if you do not feel it right away, you will soon. As you build up your confidence, you will be moving closer to your exam date. It is always a good idea to schedule a test date so that you have a goal to work towards.

Attending lessons with a professional driving school in Reading will prepare you for any driving situation and ready you for driving on any street or motorway. Once you are ready to take your test you will feel nervous, but if you have worked hard with an instructor, then they will have a logbook of your driving hours along with the various things that you have learned and practised. This is an important document that must be presented at the test office once you are ready for your exam. Driving schools can teach you what you need to know to be an excellent driver. It is up to you to put those teachings into constant practice and learn how to be a good and responsible driver.

What to Expect from Driving School in Reading

Ready for Driving Lessons in Reading?

If you are ready for driving lessons in Reading, then you should definitely get in touch with a professional driving instructor. There are so many great reasons to learn how to drive with a professional instructor. When you are first learning how to drive, you will form habits that you will carry with you for your whole life while you drive. It is a good idea to form good habits that can ensure your safety as well as the safety of others that are on the roadways. Driving instructors help you to go from never being behind the wheel of a car to being a good driver.

When you decide to learn how to drive you should find a driving school that has lesson times available that work with your schedule. What you will do is contact the instructor and they will come and collect you from your home, work or school to take you out for driving lessons. You will be taken to a location that is away from busy traffic where you can learn to drive in a mellower environment. This will be the first opportunity that you have to experience how a car functions and it may be frightening at first. As you sit in the driver’s seat you may feel nervous.

shutterstock_132861716

The role of the instructor for your driving lessons Reading is to erase that nervousness and replace it with confidence so that you will be able to drive a vehicle in a variety of situations. The starting point is to teach you to ease into acceleration slowly and carefully. Once you know how the gas pedal operates and how much pressure to add, you will be able to judge how much pressure you need to keep the car operating at a constant speed. Erratic acceleration and constant braking can cause excessive fuel consumption, so it is good to learn this steady gas pedal habit early on.

You will be taught the basics when you take driving lessons Reading and this will help you to pass the driving test when you are ready. It is up to your driving instructor to teach you all of the skills necessary to make you a good driver. Sure, you can have friends and family help you with your driving, but it does not compare to professional instruction that is the basis for lifelong driving skills. If you think you are ready to start driving, get in touch with a professional instructor and get started.

The sooner that you start logging the hours of instruction, the better. You have a much better chance of passing the driving test with a good foundation under you. Make sure that you choose a driving instructor that you get along with and like. This will help you to be able to concentrate on the tasks that you are given. You will be able to complete all of your driving challenges with confidence and once you build up the right amount of confidence, you will be ready to take your road test and drive on your own.

Ready for Driving Lessons in Reading?

Why you need driving lessons in Aldershot

It is important to find a good place to take driving lessons Aldershot because you want to learn everything there is to know about driving so that you have a better chance of passing your driving test. Most people think that they can just have friends and family teach them to drive, but this is a serious mistake for many reasons.

shutterstock_132861674

One reason that it is not a good idea to have a family member or a friend teaches you to drive is that you may not be learning the proper method of doing something. A person who is close to you might not be as impartial as they should be and there will be a certain amount of emotion involved. If emotion takes over, people tend to forget the purpose of the driving lesson and it can be a serious waste of time.

A professional driving school that offers driving lessons Aldershot is a great choice because a new driver will be taught everything that they need to be a safe and good driver on the roadways. If you decide to take professional driving lessons, you will be picked up at your home by the driving school instructor. You will then start your driving lesson immediately and be taken around to a safe area to learn the basics.

As you gain confidence and feel better about driving, your driving lessons in Aldershot will become more complicated and more tasks will be included. It is important to never panic when you are driving, because this can be very dangerous. Continue to listen to all of the instructions that the driving instructor gives to you as you are learning to drive.

Driving lessons Aldershot can help you to be better prepared to pass your final road test.

Why you need driving lessons in Aldershot

The Importance of Driving Lessons in Farnham

It is a good idea to consider driving lessons in Farnham if you plan to get your driver’s licence. While a large portion of people decide to learn how to drive with friends and family, it is a better idea to arrange for a professional to instruct you. There are many reasons for this but the main and most important one is that you learn to drive the right way. It is important to form good habits from the beginning of the time that you start driving, like having both hands on the steering wheel at all times. There are plenty of things that you are not going to know about when you start driving, like checking blind spots in your side mirrors and looking over your shoulder for cars before you change lanes.

shutterstock_86666056

A good driving instructor will help you to go through a mental checklist when you start driving. From slowly starting off with your foot on the gas to braking slowly and thoughtfully, the characteristics of a good and skilled driver are formed through careful instruction. The lessons that are taught to a new driver are generally based on the level of skill and knowledge that the driver possesses at the time. If the driver is just starting out, then they will only be doing the things that they can handle at the time. If a driving student has been driving for a while, then they will learn increasingly difficult skills as they are ready for them.

A series of driving lessons in Farnham will prepare a driving student for the ultimate driving exam that they will face once they are ready to get their driver licence. It is important for someone who is learning to drive to learn how to be confident behind the wheel and make important decisions as they are driving. The truth is that hesitation causes accidents and those who are undecided and make the wrong decision at the wrong time can end up getting into a serious accident. When a student takes driving lessons, they are guided under the watchful eye of an experienced instructor who has been driving for many decades and can provide the insight and knowledge needed for that student to be successful.

If you have been contemplating driving lessons in Farnham but have not yet decided to go ahead and take those lessons, it is important to note that this is an investment in your future. You will be driving for much of your adult life and you want to know that you have the basics down and that you are building on the skills that are needed to drive safely and predict situations that can occur on the roadways ahead of you. Driving instruction can also help in the future in that those who take professionals lessons qualify for insurance discounts which can add up to a significant cost savings over many years. One should definitely consider the importance of driving lessons and then make the choice to become a safe driver now and into the future.

Choosing a Driving School

shutterstock_126644120

Whether it is yourself who wants to learn to drive, or someone you are helping make arrangements for, one of the first things you need to do, is choose a driving school.  This might seem relatively straightforward, however there are a number of factors you ought to consider, before making a final decision.

Getting Started

Browsing the internet will provide you with a vast number of schools offering driving lessons in Camberley, however personal recommendations are always worth taking on-board.  After all, if someone you know and trust has had a good experience with an instructor, there is a good chance you will get on with them well too.

Once you have narrowed down your choices, the best thing to do is give the driving school a call to have a chat.  Instructors, particularly those from larger schools expect this, so don’t feel awkward about asking for a no-obligation natter.  Some schools offering driving lessons in Camberley, may even offer you a free or reduced-price trial lesson.  This is definitely worth doing, as it will help you decide whether you wish to continue with them, before parting with any more money.

Instructors Ability & Qualifications

If you are paying your instructor, they have to be a Qualified DSAADI: Driving Standards Agency Approved Driving Instructor.  The vehicle that they use should also display a badge. Instructors which are fully qualified, will have been issued a green octagon by the Driving Standards Agency.  Those that have yet to qualify will display a pink triangle.

Price

Price tends to be an important factor for the majority of people.  With the average learner driver requiring 45 lessons, learning to drive is a huge financial commitment.  Lessons tend to last one hour as a rule, and cost in the region of £25.  In order to keep costs to a minimum, it’s worth asking whether the driving school has any deals available.

Pass Rate

This isn’t always as indicative as you might think.  In isolation, it can in fact be quite meaningless.  If you do enquire about pass rates, make sure you find out what the average number of lessons was, so that you can put it into context.

In Conclusion

Ultimately, who you choose is up to you.  There are lots of schools offering driving lessons in Camberley, however it is important to choose someone that not only communicates clearly, but you feel comfortable with.

Top tips for your Driving Test

Blue School of Motoring present a guide of Top Tips to help you with your driving test.

The biggest driving test tip is not to book a driving test unless you feel your ready! If you don’t feel confident, check with your driving instructor whether you are ready for your driving test. Always do a Mock Driving Test before the real one, if this goes well great, if it goes badly, then get some more practice or change your driving test, this is free to do.

It’s natural to feel slightly nervous on the day of your driving test. Don’t let this worry you too much. Stay calm and drive as you have been driving with your driving instructor, don’t drive any differently just because an examiner is sitting next to you.

Always check your mirrors and indicate before stopping or moving off during your driving test. Look carefully over your shoulders to check your blind spots. Failure to do the latter will most certainly get you a minor fault, and could be potentially hazardous to other road users.

Top tips for your Driving Test

Blue School of Motoring present a guide of Top Tips to help you with your driving test.

If another vehicle approaches while you’re performing a reverse manoeuvre during your driving test, don’t panic. Make eye contact with the other driver first - if it’s clear that he is waiting for you, continue calmly with your manoeuvre, but check all round first. Otherwise wait until he’s driven past you before proceeding. In addition, while you should do your best to complete a turn in the road in three movements, you will not automatically fail your driving test if you take more then three. The important point is to look out for other road users and complete it at a reasonable pace.

Don’t panic if you make a mistake during your driving test. The examiner will not automatically fail you. Remain calm and move on. The national pass rate for the practical test is 45%.

Always listen to the directions given to you by the Driving Examiner, these are clear and inform you of where you are going, if you forget what they have said or during your independent drive, then ask them to repeat back your requested route..

Top tips for your Driving Test

Blue School of Motoring present a guide of Top Tips to help you with your driving test.

If you have to overtake cyclists during your driving test, give them plenty of clearance (about the width of an average-sized car). Don’t follow them too closely.

When reversing, keep looking round for road users, even put your drivers side window down as this can help you to hear approaching vehicles. Never continue reversing as another road user is passing.

Use your mirrors before you change speed (up or down), change gear, stop or move off and whenever you change direction in your driving test.

Top tips for your Driving Test

Blue School of Motoring present a guide of Top Tips to help you with your driving test.

Don’t look down at the gear stick when you change gear during your driving test. You should always keep your eyes on the road, constantly scanning the far, middle and near distance and anticipating any developing hazards..

Always indicate correctly and in good time, this helps other road users to know your intentions.

Do not stop at every junction during your driving test unless it is necessary. For example, if you stop at a roundabout when it’s obvious that you’re clear to go, you may pick up marks for hesitancy. However, where the road sign tells you to “Stop”, you must do so.

Don’t get too close to stationary vehicles or obstructions. Always keep a look out for pedestrians stepping out onto the road.
